Film soundtracks: I think the Dreadnoughts should do ‘em. We could totally do it. Give us a project and a few thousand bucks and we could totally knock together some folky instrumental magic for a film. This has long been a dream of mine but it is one that will likely remain a dream, given that most films seem to be scored by the same four guys.
Indeed, very early on in our band’s history, some observant soul pointed out that a lot of our tunes sound like punked up Danny Elfman scores. This is absolutely 100% correct. It is most evident in songs like this, which could literally be playing during a battle scene in some funky Beetlejuice remake:
Anyway, I recently went on an angry rant about fully grown adults who skip slow songs on albums just because they’re slow:
I honestly don’t think they should be allowed to vote. Like if you’re listening to the Ramones End of the Century and you skip “Danny Says”, you shouldn’t be allowed to vote. You and everyone like you can be shipped off to an island where you can skip “Za Smierc Przyjaciela” and “Fairytale of NY” and “Danny Says” to your heart’s content, until of course you all die of starvation in three days because you won’t be able to form a functioning society.
I’m very proud of this paragraph. Everything in it is true and proportionate.
But the funny thing is that I did once realize that the slow instrumental “Za Smierc Przyjaciela” could be given a heavier, more metal treatment with a full orchestra, and I even made a shitty synth-heavy demo to see if it would work out. A sort of Hans Zimmer war-movie huge-drum-kit sort of version, minus all the great playing and good production as it was done for free on a synthesizer. It’s the sort of thing we could do if Movie People would give us money to do it. How do you get Movie People to give you money to do these things? Who are the Movie People? No idea.
Anyway, here it is… wait: he’s not going to restrict the demo to paid subscribers, is he? I hate when he does that. He always does that. I open this stupid Substack every week hoping for music and he makes me pay for it.
Yeah you’re darn fucking skippy I am. GIVE US MONEY.
