A little while ago, we made a Substack post wondering what the next album should be like, and we mused: “So… why not focus our energies on an all-traditional album for 2023? Eh?”
Well, here she is, friends, here she is. Set for release on March 14th, 2023. Pre-order on Bandcamp here. HYPE.
Nine traditional folk songs, plus one Dreadnoughts original rebooted. Drinking songs, love songs, war chants, sea shanties, songs of the sea. All lovingly recorded, mixed, and mastered by us!
This—I just checked—is our seventh full-length studio album. (Ha ha. Holy shit, that feels like way too many.) And it has been hours and hours and hours of work, but we are really happy to have finally made this idea work.
On that Substack post, we let folks suggest songs, and one of them, ‘Konrad’, made an absolutely brilliant suggestion: “A Polish version of Hej Sokoły. Good luck.” We instantly fell in love with this song.
And so, the first downloadable single will be available on March 1: “Hej Sokoły (Zal za Ukraina)”. It’s a traditional Polish/Ukrainian folk song with some English verses (sorry Konrad) played at blistering speed. It’s lovingly dedicated to all the folks we know affected by the war, particularly those who have put their lives on the line.
And finally, sorry again that this is digital-only right now, but if the album seems to be really well-received we will look at printing it. And be “well-received” we mean “it starts to make lots of money”. Hint. Hint. HINT HINT. BUY IT. STREAM IT. HINT. HINT. HINT.
And of course, if you want to receive early versions of the songs, demos, B-sides and insight into the recording process, do become a paid subscriber…
AwwwwwwYES I LOVE not even having to wait a whole month! Any chance of putting it up for preorder on Bandcamp, you know, just to prime the money pump?
Hell yeah! Can’t wait to sink my teeth into it!
